“I love softball,” she said. “It takes my mind off things when I’m stressed.”

Hildebrand said that she visited the campus during the fall of her sophomore year and was taken with the vibe that it gave off. She explained that she likes the fact that it’s small and not too far from home. Additionally, she said that the coaches and softball players that she met were “welcoming.”

When considering that she still has one more season to play before going off to college, Hildebrand said that she’s “looking forward to growing as a team.” Last year, the team made it to the state quarterfinals, an accomplishment she’s incredibly proud of.

“I feel very blessed,” Hildebrand said. “I’ve had great supporters along the way. I certainly couldn’t have done it alone.”

One of her supporters is Tim Jennings, athletic director at James River High School. He explained that although Hildebrand is an outfielder, she’s really known for her batting.

“This is a very exciting day,” Jennings said. “Cameron has had a lot of success. She’s an all-around good kid.”

When speaking with Hildebrand’s parents, Jennings added, “You’ve raised a very special young lady.”

Her father, Shawn Hildebrand, said, “Thank you to everybody. We appreciate your support.”
