VFW Auxiliary yard sale September 7
The VFW Auxiliary members of Post 1841 will have a yard sale on Saturday, September 7, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 4902 Roanoke Road, Daleville.
Anyone interested in donating items for the yard sale may bring them to the VFW Post on Friday, September 6 at 7 p.m. Contact Ruby Taylor at 540-761-3104 for additional information.
Botetourt Retired Educators to meet
The Botetourt Retired Teachers will meet on Monday, September 9, at Bellacinos in Daleville. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 11. Cost of lunch is $10. Dues for 2019-2020 ($35) may be paid at the meeting.
Chuck Swope from Creekside Insurance Advisors will be there to answer insurance and medical coverage questions.
All retired educators living in the Botetourt County area are eligible for membership in the BRE. Members will receive an email notification or a phone call. If you want to attend the meeting, contact Susan Martin at 473-2636 by Thursday, September 5.
Botetourt County Chorus sets dates for practice, concert
Practice for the Botetourt County Chorus’s fall concert will begin on Monday, Sept. 9 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church on Nace Road in Troutville. The program is entitled “Holiday Spectactular” and will include a tribute to veterans, songs of Thanksgiving and many familiar Christmas tunes. Direction of “Holiday Spectacular” will be by Stephen Harris, and accompanist will be Barbara Campbell.
The first show will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Solomon’s Mission in Buchanan. The second show will be Sunday, Nov. 17th at the VFW Post located between Fincastle and Daleville. Both presentations will begin at 3 p.m. Special guests will be participating in the two productions. Concerts are free, but donations are welcome to defray chorus expenses.
An invitation to participate in these concerts is extended to all former chorus members and anyone else who would loves to sing. There are no auditions. For further information, call Faye at 798-8142.
Toys 4 Bot-E-Tots fundraiser September 28
Toys 4 Bot-E-Tots sets September 28 for the annual Poker Run and Pork Chop Dinner. Registration for the poker run is $15. Pork chop dinners are $10. There will be door raffles, gun raffle, 50/50 and a bake sale that day. Pork chop tickets are available for purchase now. Gun raffle tickets can also be purchased at this time. Monetary donations can be dropped off at any office of The Bank of Fincastle. To purchase tickets contact Matt Ward, Nellie Ward or Tina Underwood or contact Toys 4 Bot-E-Tots on their Facebook page. All money raised benefits children in Botetourt at Christmas.
Women in the Outdoors event set for September
The Botetourt Longbeards chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) will hold a Women in the Outdoors event on Saturday, September 7 at Blue Ridge Vineyard, 1027 Shiloh Road, Eagle Rock. Cost is $35 and includes membership in the NWTF, a year’s subscription for Turkey Country magazine, lunch and snacks. All participants will receive a $25 Bass Pro gift card.
Activities will include archery, shotgun, rifle, pistol, AR and a nature adventure.
No prior experience in archery or shooting is necessary. No personal firearms are allowed and participants must be at least 16 years old. Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Square Dance Club offering free lessons
Learn Western Square Dancing from caller Paul Booze at the Botetourt Swingers Square Dance Club. Try two free introductory Tuesday nights on September 17 and 24 from 7-7:30 p.m. All classes are held at the Troutville Town Hall on Route 11.
Tuesday night classes will start October 8 from 6:30-7:30 and run through May of 2020.
The $12 charge per person is for four weeks in advance.
