Softball returns to Moyer Complex; won’t share games with BSC in August

The James I. Moyer Complex in Salem hosted the USA Girls 16U and 18U Fast Pitch Tournament last weekend in Salem. The Augusta Flames won the 18U tournament but Botetourt County was represented on several teams, including the local Class Action Scrappers 18U team. Here Kloe Bacon from Lord Botetourt rips a double for the Scrappers, shortstop Lexi McCullough from James River High fires to first and River’s Kaycee Kincaid digs one out of the dirt behind the plate. The bleachers and dugouts were cleaned on all four fields after every game, and here Scott Scharnus of the tournament staff looks more like a Ghostbuster than a member of the grounds crew. Salem will host another tournament this weekend. Meanwhile, the Botetourt Sports Complex has been closed for the remainder of the season through autumn. The BSC was scheduled to share tournaments with Salem every weekend in August but that won’t be the case, as Salem is looking to replace the games in Daleville with fields in Roanoke County.
