The Botetourt County School Board voted unanimously last Thursday to change the 2020-2021 school calendar, making today a professional development/workday for teachers.
Originally, today was marked to be a virtual learning day.
Dr. John Russ, the division’s superintendent, said, “We’ve received several requests that we provide some additional training for our Canvas management learning system that we have in place.”
Michelle Crook, the chair of the board, explained that the change will allow teachers to gain more training related to Canvas. She added that it will also give students the chance to catch their breath.
According to the division, “Students will not be in any of our buildings, nor will it be a remote/virtual learning day for them.”
The change will not impact the division’s 990 hours of instructional time. “We have this wiggle room in our calendar to achieve all of these goals,” Crook added.
