Neighborhoods throughout Botetourt County are invited to join the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office for this year’s National Night Out event on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Fincastle Baptist Church from 5 to 7 p.m. While National Night Out is generally held in August, many select areas celebrate the event on the first Tuesday in October.

National Night Out is nationally sponsored by NATW, Ring, New York Life, Starbucks, Associa, AT&T, Academy Sports & Outdoors and co-sponsored locally by Austin Electrical Construction Inc., Davis H. Elliot, and Lawrence Companies.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighbor camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work.

From time to time, neighbors throughout Botetourt and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement.

Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most communities celebrate National Night Out by hosting block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other various community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and more.

“The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office is committed to engaging our citizens through non-enforcement community activities to continue building and maintaining lasting relationships with those we serve,” said Sheriff Matt Ward. “We invite the community to join us on October 5ar  Fincastle Baptist, 7330 Roanoke Road, Fincastle, for fireworks, food, music and more.”
