The Lord Botetourt girls won a battle of district unbeatens in volleyball last week to take over first place in the Blue Ridge District. The Cavaliers defeated Franklin County in Daleville in four sets.

“It was a great team win,” said LB coach Julie Conner. “I was really proud of how focused the team was and how they played throughout the match.”

LB won the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-21. The Eagles rallied to win the third, 25-18, but Botetourt put it away with a 25-19 win in the fourth set.

Skylar Morris had 39 assists for Botetourt while Anna Dewease led with 20 digs. Julianna Stephenson and Nora Spickard had 14 kills each and Julianna also had six digs and two aces while Nora had 11 digs and a pair of aces.

Sydney Whorley had eight kills and a team high five aces. Emma Rice had four kills and three blocks at the net as LB improved to 4-0 in the district and 9-4 overall.

Also last week the girls played at William Fleming and dominated the Colonels, 25-12, 25-3 and 25-3. Spickard and Stephenson had seven kills each while Whorley and Claire Dozier had five apiece. Morris had 10 serving aces.

The Cavaliers will stay busy this week. They were scheduled to host Staunton River on Tuesday and tonight they go to Cave Spring. Then, on Thursday, they have their third match in as many nights with a home match against William Byrd.
