The James River girls played host to Stuarts Draft in volleyball Monday and took a win in three sets in Springwood. The girls won 25-14, 26-24 and 25-15.

Junior Emma Lester led the Knights with seven kills, and also had 10 digs. Lexi McCullough had five kills and 10 digs. Bella Gilliland also had five kills and Emma Francis had four.

Bailey Mines led River with 16 assists and she also had three aces. Defensive specialist Mary Hoye had 23 digs. Freshman setter Belle Stewart entered at the end of the second set, when River was trailing 24-23, and served two aces for the final two points of the set to give River the win.

River’s jayvee team also won in straight sets in a best-of-three, 25-10 and 25-10.

The Knights were scheduled to play at Floyd on Tuesday, but results were too late for publication. The girls will host Glenvar in a River Ridge District game next Monday. That was originally scheduled for Thursday of this week.
