The Botetourt Titans 8-and-under football team finished second among eight teams in the Sandlot Super Bowl Tournament. The Titans made it to last Saturday’s Pee Wee Division final at Salem Stadium before falling to the North Roanoke Vikings in the championship game, 27-12.
Botetourt put up a good fight. The Vikings drove inside the Titans’ 10-yard line on the opening series but fumbled and Brady Meadows recovered to stop the threat. Botetourt then drove to midfield, where Jordan Hampton broke loose for a 49-yard touchdown run to give the Titans a 6-0 lead.
North Roanoke answered with a 50-yard run, and converted the extra point for a 7-0 lead. The Vikings then scored with 55 seconds remaining in the half to go up 14-6 at intermission.
North Roanoke put it away with a 51-yard run with 7:08 remaining. The conversion made it a two score game at 21-12, and the Vikings put some icing on the cake with a “pick six” touchdown return of an interception with inside two minutes to go.
In the other Sandlot Super Bowl games, Cave Spring beat Franklin County in the Little Division, for 10-and-under players, 8-6, and Vinton topped Salem in the Junior Division, for 12-and-under, 22-8.
