The Lord Botetourt swim team opened the season at the Southwest Virginia High School Invitational at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center last Saturday. The girls finished fifth among 25 teams, while the boys were eighth among 23 schools competing.
“The first meet of the season was a huge success,” said LB coach Ashley Safrit. “Most swimmers were either very close to their best time, or achieved a personal record at this meet. Amazingly, we already have swimmers that have made qualifying times for the state meet in February.”
For the girls, the 200 Medley Relay team took second place with a personal record and state cut of 1:53.59. That team consisted of Layne Jones, Katie Cross, Angelina Zeidan and Emily Hanson.
Jones won the 100 Back with a state cut of 59.11 and also took third place in the 200 Free with a PR and state cut time of 2:02.20. Zeidan was third in the 100 Fly with a state cut of 1:00.7 and fourth in the 50 Free with a state cut of 25:38. Hanson took fourth in the 100 Free with a PR of 1:00.19.
For the boys, the 200 Medley Relay team of Zeke Wolfe, Kai Wolfe, Griffin Davidson and James Lively was third with a personal best time of 1:49.7. Zeke also won the 100 Free in 50.9 and was seventh in the 50 Free at 23.40. Kai took eighth place in the 100 Fly.
Science Hill High School of Tennessee was the team winner in both the girls and boys team competition.
LB will be back in action next Wednesday, December 15, with a meet at Alleghany.
