The James River swim team opened the season last week with a meet at the Botetourt YMCA and had some strong performances.

The boys 200 Free relay team placed first with Nathan Etzler, Walker Wilson, Alex Campbell and Colin Cook. Wilson also won the 50 Free and took second in the 100 Fly, while Etzler won both the 100 Free and 100 Backstroke.

Cameron Rodgers was second in the 100 Breaststroke, while Cook took third. Drew Whitson took second in the 100 Back and third in the 100 Free in the girls competition and MacKenzie Alford was third in the 100 Backstroke.

The Knights also had some swimmers in the Southwest Virginia High School Invitational at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center last Saturday. The boys were 20th as a team.

River is scheduled to swim at the Gator Pool in Roanoke tonight against Glenvar and William Byrd.
