The big rematch between the James River and Lord Botetourt basketball teams was postponed last week due to health concerns and rescheduled for Saturday, January 22. However, both teams will return to action this week with big games, including an appearance in the annual Chance Harman Classic at Floyd County High this weekend.
The Chance Harman Classic includes three games on Friday night and eight more on Saturday. Lord Botetourt will play the 6 p.m. game Friday against a tough Radford team. The 4:30 p.m. game has Auburn against Altavista and at 8 p.m. the Blue Ridge School from Virginia will take on Combine Academy of North Carolina.
There is also a Three-Point Shooting Contest on Friday at 7:30 p.m., right after the LB game. Botetourt has entered Conner Tilley and Tyler Meade in the contest, while James River will have Ryan Steger and Jayson Easton competing behind the line.
River will get the eight-game card underway on Saturday with a 9 a.m. game against Pulaski County. The rest of the schedule has Northside against E.C. Glass at 10:30 a.m., Virginia Episcopal School against Winston-Salem Christian at noon, Cave Spring against Jefferson Forest at 1:30 p.m., Cape Henry Collegiate of Virginia taking on Combine Academy at 3 p.m., the Floyd County girls against Auburn at 4:30 p.m., the Floyd County boys against East Rockingham at 6 p.m. and the Blue Ridge School against Centerville High of Ohio at 7:30 p.m. in the last game of a big day.
River comes into the week at 6-2 and the Knights are scheduled to play at Floyd County tonight. Lord Botetourt finished the 2021 portion of the schedule at 5-2 and the Cavaliers were scheduled to host Northside on Tuesday. LB will also play an afternoon game against Hidden Valley on Saturday in Daleville.
The Lord Botetourt girls have been off for over two weeks as their game with Abingdon was postponed by health protocols last week. The girls were scheduled to play at Northside on Tuesday and at Patrick Henry tonight. They’re back home Friday to host William Fleming.
