James River senior Patrick Clevenger has announced his intention to play collegiate basketball at Roanoke College in Salem. Clevenger made the commitment over the holiday break.

“To see Patrick commit to Roanoke is pretty inspiring,” said James River coach Ethan Humphries, who  played for Page Moir at RC after his high school days on the Knights team. “They are currently Top 10 in the country in many rankings. He works relentlessly and to see it all pay off is very rewarding for not only him and his family, but for his teammates and coaches as well.”

Clevenger is a four-year varsity player for the Knights. He was a first team selection to the Class 2 All-State team following his junior year.

“Patrick has grown so much as a player throughout the last couple of years, but I think a huge piece to his recruitment was also the type of person he is,” said Humphries. “He’s a straight-A kid and is about as coachable as one could ask for. He’s the type of kid that changes an entire program with his work ethic and dedication.”

Roanoke College coach Clay Nunley confirmed the verbal commitment but cannot comment on Clevenger since NCAA rules prohibit him from commenting publicly until Patrick has submitted his deposit to admissions.
