The Lord Botetourt boys basketball team opened a busy stretch with a win at Hidden Valley Monday to begin a four-game week. The Cavaliers have games on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday this week.
LB opened the week with a 75-54 win at Hidden Valley. The Cavaliers led 43-25 at the half and were never threatened by the 1-12 Titans, but LB coach Andrew Hart was happy to get out of Roanoke County with a win, nonetheless.
“We didn’t shoot the ball well, but we were able to stay fresh,” he said. “A lot of guys played hard and made plays when we needed them.”
The Cavaliers were led by Conner Tilley, who had 24 points and hit four three-pointers. Evan Bannwart and Jackson Crawford had 10 points each and Crawford had four assists. LB had nine different players score as the Cavaliers improved to 7-3 overall.
Lord Botetourt was scheduled to host Franklin County on Tuesday night, followed by a home game with Staunton River on Friday. Then Saturday, the Cavaliers will play Spotswood at Rockbridge County High School in the “Rock the Ribbon” event. Botetourt’s game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Cavaliers split two thrillers last week, losing to Northside at home and beating Radford in the “Chance Harman Classic” at Floyd County High School on Saturday.
The Northside score was 69-62 in favor of the Vikings. Botetourt led 33-28 at the half and 48-43 after three quarters before Northside finished strong, taking the fourth quarter 26-14. Crawford had 18 points, Tilley had 16 and Ashton Bramblett had a dozen.
“Our team was ready for a big challenge and it showed throughout the game as we controlled until the fourth quarter,” said Hart. “Unfortunately, we weren’t able to sustain our momentum in the fourth and a few missed shots and key turnovers let Northside regain the lead. We are ready and excited for our rematch with them in a few weeks. They are a great team.”
On Saturday Bramblett wasn’t entered in the Chance Harman three-point shooting contest, but he had the biggest three of the day as he drained a trey at the buzzer to beat Radford, 53-51. It was the second time this season Bramblett nailed a walk-off three, as he disappointed William Byrd with a similar shot just before Christmas.
“We were able to get some good practices in after our Northside loss and it really showed throughout the Radford game,” said Hart. “We executed on offense, made shots when we needed to, and played with great energy on defense. Our most complete game from start to finish this season.”
Tilley had 19 points, Tyler Meade had 14 and Bramblett had 12 and those three combined for 11 threes. Crawford had five assists.
“Jackson did a great job of running the offense and finding our guys ready to shoot,” said Hart. “We are looking forward to four games this week and continue our momentum.”
