The James River boys braved a cold and windy night and made it even more miserable home standing Auburn when they took a 2-0 soccer win in Riner last week Friday.
“It was a tough night for us on a windy and cold night,” said River coach Jared Whiting. “Given the conditions, I’m proud of the way we played. We had solid play throughout the field.”
Justin Hill had two goals for the Knights and Nathan St. Clair had one. River controlled the ball for most of the game.
“We kept the ball in their half probably 70 percent of the game, and if you can do that good things should happen and they did,” said Whiting. “Their box was congested all night but these guys kept their patience and waited for the opportunities to open up.”
The Knights also had a home game with Craig County last week and they took an 8-0 win over a coed Rocket team. Hill, Chase Cuddy, Elias Echavarria and Silas Miller all scored.
“Craig is small in numbers, young this year and struggling a little so far this season, but played with top level sportsmanship,” said Whiting. “The game might not have been a nail biter but it was a lot of fun to see how both teams interacted with each other.”
River was scheduled to host Carroll County on Tuesday and Thursday the Knights will be home for a River Ridge game with Radford.
