Dalton Hall and Heath Andrews combined to pitch James River to an 8-3 win over the Highlanders at Glenvar Monday as the Knights remained unbeaten in the Three Rivers District with a 5-0 record. River is 10-4 overall.
River took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Hunter Mays. The Knights opened a 7-0 lead in the third when they put a crooked four on the board. Colin Cook, Jonas Wilkes and Mays all had big hits in the inning.
The Knights went up 8-0 in the fourth and were on the verge of a slaughter role win before the Highlanders scored three runs in the last two innings. Hall got the win on the mound, allowing just two hits in his five innings of work. Cook and John Austin had three hits each for River.
Last Friday in Springwood the Knights pulled out a 9-8 win over Floyd County. A four-run fourth highlighted the night for River as Zeal Hammons singled in two runs and Cook doubled-in two more. Hammons finished with three hits while Cook, Wilkes and Andrews had two each. Hammons and Cook had three RBIs each.
Hammons pitched the first four innings to pick up the win despite giving up seven runs. Wilkes pitched the final three innings.
River also had an 11-4 district win over Alleghany last week in Low Moor. Andrews went six innings for the win and Hammons pitched a scoreless seventh. Andrews, Hammons and Mays had two hits each for River.
The Knights are scheduled to be back in action Thursday with a home doubleheader against Carroll County. Both games are scheduled for five innings.
Next Monday the Knights will travel to Salem to play the Spartans at Kiwanis Park, and a day later they go to Radford for a big Three Rivers game.
