Folk music with Andy & Judy
“Oh, play me some mountain music / Like Grandma and Grandpa used to play.” Ever heard that song by the band Alabama? If you have, you know how quickly it sets your feet stomping and hands clapping.
Mountain music is even better when you’re in the mountains! On Friday, July 29, 6-8 p.m., join us at the Eagle Rock Library for a night of folk music with the talented duo Andy & Judy.
Hailing from Massachusetts, Andy & Judy Daigle write their own original songs, often following the long folk music tradition of telling stories through music. Many of their songs recount historical events, such as the Orphan Train that transported parentless children to new homes, or the poignant struggles of Civil War days. Music preserves not only the history, but also the emotions surrounding events that are so often lost in time but can be rekindled through musical portrayals that we all understand.
Their songwriting style is based on traditional and folk music, but you can also hear the familiar strains of more modern influences like blues, gospel, country and bluegrass. They support rich singing with folk guitar, mandolin, banjo, piano, harmonica, ukulele, and even support bass, violin and percussion.
Andy & Judy “put the fun back in folk music,” in the words of one fan. Their performance is great on its own, but they make it even better by inviting the community to sing and clap along. They believe that singing brings people together as a community by learning new songs and sharing special experiences together. You don’t have to participate, but you probably won’t be able to resist. Their music brings out the Appalachian mountain side in all of us.
So bring your family and friends to Eagle Rock the last Friday of July to enjoy some nostalgia, fun, and auditory therapy together. If you’re tempted to crash on the couch, you really need this instead. As one attendee said of Andy & Judy’s music, “When the performance started, I was exhausted from a long day. After the concert, I felt zippy again!”
Get zippy again by enjoying some good ol’ mountain music with us!
