The 2021 Botetourt Chamber Golf Classic took place at the Ashley Plantation Golf Club in Daleville last Friday.

The tournament welcomed 116 players with 30 tournament sponsors. A portion of the tournament proceeds went to support area food banks thanks to donations totaling $2,500 from Food Lion Feeds and Winter Storage.

“We had a great tournament with amazing community support,” Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce Marketing and Event Coordinator Jennifer Vance stated in a recent interview. “The weather could not have been more beautiful with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s. A perfect golf event!”

The Chamber drew five raffle tickets for a shootout on hole number 10. One player, Brian Taylor, was selected to take the $1 million shot and four players (Granville Grant, Matt Shephard, Justin King, and Jeff Wendling) were selected to take the $100,000 shot.

Wendling and King came close to a big win with their drives landing on the green just short of the hole. Consolation prizes of a cruise and a seven-day resort stay were awarded to two of the players.

Marty Francis took the putting contest win, sponsored by The Bank of Fincastle/First Bank, with a hole in one. He was awarded a seven-day resort stay for the win. The “ugliest shorts” contest winner, sponsored by The Reserve at Daleville, went to Lou Pierce for his trend-setting, “chic” 1930s-style knicker pants.

Team prizes went to first place winners Truist Private Wealth Management with players Logan Conroy, Oliver Surpenant, Jason Moretz, and Noah States taking the win.

Second place went to Ronaissance Painting with Ronald Denson, Butch Vandergrift, Brian Painter, and Curtis Fecteau.

Third place was celebrated by Arevo Group, players Coy Renick, Tim Prillaman, Steve Shively, and Austin Outen.
