The public is invited to enjoy an evening of live bluegrass music performed in the Buchanan Theatre this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. by Against the Grain.

Area musicians Danny Reynolds, Richard Greer, Mark Holt and David Goode make up Against the Grain, and are this month’s featured performers of the Buchanan Arts Series.

This monthly concert series is hosted by the Town of Buchanan’s Downtown Revitalization Program and Buchanan Special Events Committee and is supported by a grant from the Bank of Botetourt’s Art by the James Series.

Members of the band hail from central Virginia and collectively have more than 90 years of musical experience. Danny Reynolds of Bedford plays mandolin, sings tenor and writes some of the band’s material.

He and Mark Holt are original members of the band. Mark lives in Rustburg, plays bass and sings baritone. David Goode lives in Lynchburg, plays guitar, sings bass and helps arrange the bands music. Richard Greer lives in Hardy, sings baritone and plays banjo.

Against the Grain has four albums including “Against the Grain,” “Road to Nowhere,” “Mountain Laurel,” and “Ghost Rider.” These recordings showcase the band’s hard-driving bluegrass style with smooth vocals.

Admission to the concert is $7; tickets are available at the Buchanan Town Hall on Main Street or at the door on the evening of the performance. For more information contact the Buchanan Downtown Revitalization Program at 254-1212 .
