Alexandria Zuleta-Visser has qualified for the USA Archery Team in the master class recurve division.

Alexandria is on scholarship at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia. She is the granddaughter of Neil and Virginia Visser of Troutville. Her parents are Josephine Visser and Euro Zuleta of Florida. Alexandria is the niece of Genevieve Visser Journel and Larry Journel of Fincastle.

The weekend of August 12-15 marked the 136th USA Archery Target Nationals and U.S. Open. Held in Richmond, VA, this event is held for the most skilled archers in the recurve, compound, and barebow divisions. The USA Archery Target Nationals and U.S. Open is considered the most prestigious event in the U.S. for Archery.

“Alex won the Final Elimination Round at the National Target Championships and U.S. Open,” said Emmanuel College Archery Head Coach John Winchester. “In the USAA, winning this event is the first step on the road to being ranked as the top U.S. Archer.”

On a traditional year at the Target Nationals, the actual national ranking of each archer would be determined at the completion of the tournament. Due to COVID-19 complications, many of the events were rescheduled and the final ranking has yet to be determined.

“Actual National Ranking is based upon a series of US tournaments. Top archers must compete in a minimum number of these events and the final ranking is based upon a complex formula using the results from the series of tournaments,” said Winchester.

Following this impressive achievement, Zuleta will continue to attend the rescheduled tournaments in order to receive her final title.
