American Legion Post 240 recognized four graduating seniors from Lord Botetourt High School during a special meeting June 23, awarding each student a $500 scholarship in recognition of their academic achievements and military family heritage.
The scholarships were presented during a meeting held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building. According to Post 240, a strong military family history was a major factor in selecting the scholarship recipients.
The 2026 scholarship recipients are:
- Kenadi Kovar, who plans to attend Virginia Tech to study veterinary medicine
- Leah Fitzgerald, who plans to attend Radford University to pursue a degree in nursing
- Abigail Perkey, who plans to attend Sweet Briar College to study education
- Allison Perkey, who plans to attend Radford University to pursue a master’s degree in occupational therapy
American Legion Post 240 members extended their congratulations and best wishes to the four students as they begin the next chapter of their education and future careers.
The scholarships reflect the post’s continued support of local students and families with military ties.
In other business, Post 240 announced that its next monthly meeting will be held Thursday, July 2, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building, located at the corner of U.S. 220 and Country Club Road in Daleville. A social hour and light supper will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the business meeting at 7 p.m. The meeting typically lasts about one hour.
American Legion Post 240 encourages all members and veterans who are not currently members to attend.
