The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office presented another Senior Social event for county citizens last Friday at Fincastle Baptist Church.
The event is focused on bringing seniors and law enforcement together to provide a platform to showcase the many services available to the 50+ community. A free buffet lunch was provided to attendees. Botetourt County Sheriff Matt Ward presented an overview of preventative measures helping Botetourt seniors from becoming victims of crime.
“As the Sheriff of this community, I am incredibly grateful for the support and participation from our community partners who contributed to the success of our senior social event,” Ward said in a recent email. “We have proven that when we come together and work together, we can create an empowering experience for our beloved seniors. We have listened to citizen feedback and added additional venues and dates for future senior activities. We hope the seniors in our community will take advantage of these services and join us at one of our next senior focus events.”
Director of Elder Rights and Long-Tern Care (LTC) Ombudsman with the Local Office on Aging Robbie Boyd served as the event’s guest speaker.
Attendees visited with many of the public and private services that included daily well-being checks, general health, and financial well-being administrators. Governmental services were on hand to answer questions and help seniors navigate future needs.
Citizens had the opportunity to speak with representatives from: Enroll Virginia!, Life Care Coordinators, innoVAge, Valley Medicare Solutions, Botetourt Resource Center, YMCA, Virginia Department of Health, ReMax, Botetourt County Treasurer’s Office, Botetourt County Libraries, Virginia Department of Social Services, Virginia Parks & Recreation, Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office, Local Office on Aging, Good Samaritan, Bank of Botetourt, Virginia Navigator, Solomon’s Mission, Department of Veterans Services, Virtual Health Resource Center, Carilion, and Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare.
The next Senior Social event will take place on November 17 at Fincastle Baptist Church. A “Senior Services Day” event takes place one month earlier on October 16 at Solomon’s Mission in Buchanan. That event will offer services and food, but no presentations.
