The James River boys were second and the girls were third at the Class 2A, Region C indoor track meet at Heritage High School last week.
Auburn edged the River boys in a close meet. The top three in each event moved on to the state meet at Roanoke College on February 21 and 22.
Erik Tolley took a first for the Knights in the 55 hurdles. Also qualifying for state, individually, were Chase Perkey with a second in the long jump and a third in the high jump, Michael Hays with a third in the triple jump and Logan Williamson with a third in the shot put. River’s 4×200 and 4×800 relay teams both took thirds as well.
In the girls meet, Appomattox was the winner. River was just five points behind the Raiders and one point behind second place Auburn.
The girls 4×400 relay team of Erin Walker, Katelyn Wiley, Kerri Wiley and Cameron Hildebrand took first place. The 4×200 team was second and the 4×800 team took third.
Qualifying for states individually were Katelyn Wiley with a first in the 500 and Susan Schulz with second in the high jump and third in the 300. Several other Knights had also pre-qualified for the state meet at RC’s one-year-old indoor facility.
