The Lord Botetourt and James River baseball teams are hoping to get some games in this week before next week’s spring break. The two county schools are scheduled to play each other on Thursday of this week at LB.

Prior to Thursday, James River had not had a game since a season-opening win over Parry McCluer on March 17. The Knights are scheduled to host Staunton River today, Wednesday, in a jayvee-varsity doubleheader, with the jayvees at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m. On Friday the Knights are at Parry McCluer.

Lord Botetourt got a game in last Friday as the Cavaliers took a 10-2 win over Patrick Henry. Caleb Franklin hit two home runs and earned a save on the mound in LB’s win.

Franklin hit a two-run homer his first time up, then blasted a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away. Bryce Kelly also had a two-run homer and Logan Wood had two hits.

Patrick Kepler picked up his first win of the season on the mound. Kepler breezed through the first five innings, shutting out the Patriots. However, he ran into some trouble in the sixth and left with two outs, two runs in and the bases loaded. Franklin relieved and struck out the first batter he faced on a 3-2 count to end the inning. Caleb then pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.

Kepler finished with six strikeouts while walking three and allowing just four hits. Franklin allowed one hit and walked one in one and a third innings.

The win put LB at 1-2 heading into Thursday’s game with James River, scheduled for Daleville. The Cavaliers have a doubleheader today at Liberty, with two five-inning games, and then they’re off until after spring break.
