The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) presented another fun National Night Out at Fincastle Baptist Church last Tuesday. The event is an evening of community-police awareness-raising provided by BCSO in partnership with local businesses.
“Thank you to everyone who made this year’s National Night Out a success,” Botetourt County Sheriff Matt Ward shared last Thursday. “It was great to see our community come together to interact with the agencies and first responders that keep our community safe. I appreciate everyone’s support of National Night Out and I look forward to our continued community engagement.”
National Night Out provides educational and technical assistance to develop effective year-long community-police partnerships designed to reduce crime, violence, and substance abuse at the community level. The event engaged the community in local crime and drug abuse prevention activities.
The National Association of Town Watch (NATW) first established the event in 1984. Since the first event, well over 9,500 communities in all 50 states, Washington D.C., five U.S. territories, numerous Canadian cities, and U.S. military bases worldwide celebrate National Night Out.
