Botetourt Fire & EMS Chief Jason Ferguson announced the hiring new Fleet Manager Ben Meadows last week.

Meadows is a native of Alleghany County. He graduated from the Roanoke Regional Fire & EMS Training Academy. Fire & EMS’ new fleet manager started with the first responders in 2019 as a firefighter/EMT. He previously spent time as a diesel mechanic after graduating high school. Meadows worked for a local truck service center in full-time and part-time roles.

Botetourt Fire & EMS created the position of fleet manager in early 2019. The previous fleet manager vacated the job in late 2020. They elected Meadows for the role after an open application process for both internal and external candidates.

Ferguson explained that Meadows lends his mechanical knowledge and skills to various projects throughout the department.

“We are excited to see Ben transition into this crucial role,” Ferguson stated in a recent press release.

Botetourt Fire & EMS created the fleet manager role to be a facilitator of both preventative maintenance and repairs of the overall fleet of fire and EMS apparatus throughout Botetourt County. This position also requires that the individual be trained and capable of response. The job is still a uniformed fire and EMS position, capable of providing emergency response. Meadows transitioned into his new role on June 21.
