Lawrence E. Benson, Jr. (Larry), 78, of Fincastle, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Lynyrd Franzen and Erin Franzen-Heitzmann. Larry is survived by his wife of 33 years, Shirley Mart Benson; his son, Lawrence E. Benson III; his daughter, Sheri J. Franzen-Glandon; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two sisters.
Larry retired from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Dept. in 1996 and then co-owned Captains’ Tavern Seafood Restaurant with his wife in Fincastle.
They met when he was a commercial fisherman trapping off of Big Pine Key where they made their home before moving to Fincastle. He loved the Lower Keys and wished to return to its crystal waters. The family will be following his wishes at a future date.
