The Second Annual BOCO Wild took place Saturday, June 10 at Buchanan Town Park and was an amazing event for the Botetourt community.
BOCO Wild is a partnership between Botetourt Parks and Recreation and the Department of Wildlife Resources. Formerly known as the Botetourt Fishing Carnival, which began in 2001, BOCO Wild encompasses a diverse array of outdoor activities. Some highlights from the event included:
- 650 participants enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities including rock climbing, trout fishing, kayaking, archery, air rifle target shooting, hunting education, boating education, casting lessons, and more. The attendees in 2023 doubled last year’s attendance.
- The first 300 children received a T-shirt, backpack, and lunch.
- The entire event was completely free for the community.
- Children received a passport to get stamped at each activity. Upon completion of their passport, they were entered to win one of several prizes from sponsors.
The county expressed gratitude in a press release last week for the volunteers who gave their time to help with the event and thanked partners Botetourt County 4-H, Botetourt County Fire & EMS, Botetourt County Libraries, and the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office.
The event was sponsored by Bank of Botetourt, Master Mason Association 22nd District, Town of Buchanan, Brent Hershey–State Farm Insurance, Twin River Outfitters, Kazim Shriners–Fire Brigade, Boblett’s Plumbing, Mossy Oak Properties, Digital Image Printing, Tidy Services, and Limit 6 Trout Team. BOCO Wild returns on June 8, 2024.
