The Lord Botetourt baseball team is in the Region 3A West tournament this week. The Cavaliers were scheduled to open Tuesday with a game at Turner Ashby High in Bridgewater.
The semifinal and final rounds of the tournament will be hosted by Christiansburg High School. Semifinals are Thursday with the championship game scheduled for Friday.
LB made the regional with a runner-up finish in the Conference 31 tournament, hosted by Lord Botetourt High School on Friday. The big win for LB came in the semifinal, as the Cavs defeated Staunton River 4-0 to clinch the regional berth.
Patrick Kepler picked up the win, pitching six shutout innings. He struck out five and allowed just three hits before Jordan Brake came on to pitch the seventh.
LB got all four runs in the first inning. Drew Bond had a two-run single and Ethan Humbert was two-for-two for the game.
The Cavaliers met Northside in the championship game Friday night and lost 9-5. LB had just three hits, including a solo home run by Brake. Dakota Duke started on the mound and took the loss, while Alex Dunn pitched the last two and a third innings.
Botetourt was 13-7 heading to Turner Ashby. The Knights came into the regional at 19-2.
