The Lord Botetourt boys will play host to William Byrd in the first round of a four-team Blue Ridge District soccer tournament Friday. The game will be the second of a doubleheader with the girls, who play Northside at 5:30 p.m. with the boys to meet Byrd at approximately 7:15 p.m.

The Cavaliers are the top seed in the tournament after finishing with a flourish in the regular season. LB shut out two opponents last week to finish 8-2 in the district and 11-3-2 overall. William Fleming was second in the BRD at 7-2-1.

Last Tuesday the Cavs shut out Franklin County, 4-0, as Dylan Salvi scored twice. Jordan Thornhill also had a goal and Ryan Mosdell scored his first varsity goal for some icing on the cake as LB avenged a prior loss.

On Friday LB hosted Staunton River for “Senior Night” and took a 6-0 win in Daleville after celebrating 13 senior players. Getting things started for the Cavaliers was Andrew Quesenberry off a beautiful cross from Bryson Harvey. The second goal came from freshmen Kalob Daniels to make the score 2-0.

Thornhill got things rolling in the second half with a beautiful shot deflecting into the goal off the crossbar to make it 3-0. Aidan Dietrich then scored both the fourth and fifth goal for the Cavaliers to make it 5-0 deep into the second half. Jake Koffman finished things off when he netted a beautiful left-footed shot to give the Cavs a 6-0 victory.
