The Lord Botetourt baseball team will be competing in a four-team Blue Ridge District tournament this week. The top two seeds will host semifinal games on Friday with the championship game at Franklin County on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Lord Botetourt will be either the third or fourth seed and will go to either William Byrd or Franklin County on Friday. Byrd beat Franklin County in 11 innings Monday night to tie the Eagles for the top spot in the district. Lord Botetourt and Northside will be the third and fourth seeds, and that order was still to be determined.

The Cavaliers finished the regular season with a 6-4 BRD record and a 13-6 record overall after winning their last two regular season games last week. On May 10 they beat Franklin County, 9-4, at Ben Franklin Middle School to give the Eagles their first district loss. Nathan Prince pitched five and a third innings to pick up the win, fanning five, and Garrett Green pitched the final inning and two-thirds.

The big blow was a fourth inning grand slam home run by Connor Fuhrman. Prince helped his cause with a two hits, including a double, and brother Owen Prince had a single and a triple.

The Cavaliers wrapped up the regular season with a 17-7 win over Staunton River in Moneta. Nate Prince remained hot at the plate, going four-for-four, and Jakari Nicely was two-for-two. Jack Vargo started on the mound and went three and a third to pick up the win with relief from Nolan Medley and Beau Kolada.
