Dorothy “Dottie” Sue Simmons Kessler (1924-2009) made this colorful hooked rug in 2003. Carole Geiger purchase it at a St. Mark’s Episcopal yard sale after Dottie donated it to her church. Carole gave it to the Botetourt History Museum in 2023. Dottie demonstrated her rug hooking skills at the Early Cabin dressed as Mrs. Early for many years. She was a local historian and assisted people with their genealogy in the Botetourt Courthouse for almost 20 years. She was a 1969 founding member of Historic Fincastle, Inc. (HFI) and left her historic records to the organization.
