This sideboard was moved from the old Botetourt Historical Museum at 3 West Main Street to the new museum at 26 East Main Street in Fincastle this year. It was a gift in the 1960s from Salem resident J. Starr Webber (1885-1969). He was the son of Henry Albert Webber (1849-1891). The sideboard belonged to Henry’s wife Sarah Elizabeth Houseman, who was born in Botetourt in 1856. Starr Webber’s grandson, John E. Skillman III of Copper Hill, Va., told the museum about the sideboard in 2010. He told former Director Emily Honts that his grandfather was very proud of his gift to the museum and was told that unfortunately the top to the sideboard was lost. However, it has now been found and can be seen under the legs. Today it needs restoration due to its exposure to fluctuating temperatures and natural light. Finally someday this sideboard could look complete with a lot of work.
