This ink sketch of the “Blacksmith Shop-Fincastle “ was done in 1978. It was donated to the Botetourt History Museum by Julia Klapproth from Blacksburg in May of 2023. The Wysong Blacksmith Shop (circa 1840) was generously shared by the Wysong family and is on Main Street across from Courthouse Square. Their ancestor Flat Wysong was a blacksmith in Fincastle. Historic Fincastle Inc. envisioned a working blacksmith shop in this building for many years. In 1992 HFI obtained a construction loan of $12,000 from The Bank of Fincastle and through donations and volunteers restored this historic property. It will be open for tours during the Fincastle Festival September 23.
