The Botetourt County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has a temporary exhibit at the Botetourt Museum of History and Culture to highlight Constitution Week, September 17-23. The U.S. Constitution was written in the summer of 1787 during the Constitution Convention, which convened in Philadelphia. The delegates finalized and signed the document on September 17, 1787, though it did not officially go into effect until the ratification process was complete in 1789. The U.S. Constitution is a living document that has shaped the nation’s legal and political landscape for over 200 years. Constitution Week was officially established by Congress in 1956 following a proclamation by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
This framed latch-hooked rug was made by Mary Myers in 1991 when she lived on her Fincastle farm along Rt. 220. It shows the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution. More information is in a display case at the museum in Fincastle.
