Living in a post-COVID19 world, many workers have shifted to a remote work environment. According to Forbes Magazine, 12.7% of full-time employees work from home, while 28.2% work a hybrid model.
Botetourt County recognizes the growing remote workforce, so in 2023, the county formed a Remote Worker Focus Group to identify and support remote and hybrid workers living in the county as well as be an attractive place to reside for the remote workforce.
The goal is to make Botetourt a state-certified Remote Work Community and develop initiatives to support remote workers and attract new talent to the area.
The county has collaborated with the Roanoke Regional Partnership (RRP) to develop a brief survey. The goal is to capture accurate data and honest answers from those that work remotely in the community.
The survey will be active from Monday, July 17 through July 31, and can be found at www.botetourtva.gov/remotework. Botetourt County is teaming up with local businesses to provide gift cards to four lucky individuals that complete the survey.
The survey is open to only Botetourt County residents.

Public hearings on July 31 about various budget amendments
The Botetourt County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on seven different items on July 31 at 7 p.m. at the County Administration Building in Daleville.
The board advertises this week that the supervisors will consider amendments to the FY 23-24 budget to appropriate: remaining funds for the Circuit Courthouse Renovation project; the remaining portion of two primary installments of ARPA funding; carryover funds for Fire & EMS, the Economic Development Authority (EDA), and the Assessor Department; funds included in several discrete funds, including Sheriff’s funds property seizure funds, and the Greenfield Preservation Fund; and an amendment to provide an appropriation for funding in the Fire & EMS Capital Reserve Fund.
The total budget amendments included for consideration regarding this public hearing are $35,626,281.45. These budget amendments relate to items that were previously included in prior years’ budgets which require new appropriations since previously approved appropriations expired on June 30.
Any interested citizens are invited to attend the public hearing to comment on the proposed Budget amendments. County supervisors intend to take action on the budget amendments after following the public hearing.
