The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Botetourt County for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022. The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
“2022 was a year filled with many challenges, but also many accomplishments in Botetourt County,” said Botetourt County Director of Financial Services Tony Zerrilla. “We saw an upgraded bond rating, a very tough budget completion and prep, and an FY22 audit with new demanding Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements that required comprehensive research, verification, and coordination with the county staff and two sets of auditors. I am very proud that Botetourt County has once again received this award.”
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. Botetourt County has received this award for the past 18 years.
