The Lord Botetourt girls clinched a spot in the state Class 3 tennis tournament with a 5-0 win over Bassett Monday. The Cavaliers were scheduled to play in the region final at Abingdon on Tuesday.
The state tournament begins on Friday of this week. If the Cavaliers won at Abingdon Tuesday they would host Friday’s match at Hollins University at a time to be determined. If Abingdon won Tuesday the Cavaliers will play on the road Friday.
The Cavaliers also had players in singles and doubles last week but they did not advance. Reagan Meade lost to Cave Spring’s number one. Meade and Kennedy Dorsey won their first doubles match against William Byrd, 6-3, 6-3, but lost a close one to Abingdon in the semifinals. The LB duo won the first set, 6-4, lost the second, 6-1, then lost the third set in a tie-breaker.
