The Lord Botetourt girls will have a non-district basketball game tonight, Wednesday, at Salem High School against an improved Salem team. Both teams came into the week with 8-3 records.

Botetourt split two games last week. First they traveled to Patrick Henry where they dropped a 53-32 decision to a strong Patriot team. Botetourt won the first and third quarters but PH won the game.

“Unfortunately, we did not show up at all in quarters two and four,” said LB coach Renee Favaro. “We had far too many turnovers and did not win the boards. Both of those issues were the deciding factor as they scored 24 of their points off our turnovers.”

Taylor Orange had nine points and Madilyn Winterton had eight to lead LB.

On Friday the girls bounced back with a 70-29 win over William Byrd in Vinton in their Blue Ridge District opener. Winterton had a double-double with 11 points and a career-best 13 assists and Orange had 17 points. Ainsley Anderson and Gracie Huffard also hit for double figures with 11 and 10.

“Great balanced attack and team effort,” said Favaro. “We were still outrebounded in this one and gave up too many offensive boards, so this is something we really have to work on moving forward.”

The Cavaliers were scheduled to host Northside on Tuesday but results were too late for publication. On Friday the girls are at William Fleming and next Tuesday, January 17, they’ll host Franklin County.
