The Kiwanis Club of Botetourt County held its recycling event at Lord Botetourt High School on Saturday, May 22. The event was held to benefit the Botetourt Libraries’ “1,000 Things to Know Before Kindergarten” program. Hundreds of county residents came to recycle papers, small electronics and other household goods. Those who came contributed over $1,600 to the library program, surpassing last year’s total.
Kiwanis Club members were joined in the effort by members of the Key Clubs of Lord Botetourt and James River High Schools, representatives of the library and employees of Bank of Botetourt (a major sponsor of the event). Project Director John Plenge described the event as a great example of community outreach. Club President Ed Lynch said the club is considering another recycling event in the fall.
The next meeting of the Kiwanis Club will be on June 7 at 7 p.m. at Bellacino’s. For more information, visit the Botetourt County Kiwanis Club Facebook page or contact Dr. Lynch at elynch@hollins.edu.
