James Madison University volleyball outside hitter Miette Veldman, a 2020 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week after her outstanding performance in the Dukes’ sweep over UNC-Wilmington on February 26 and 27.

Veldman recorded double-doubles in both of JMU’s wins against the Seahawks. In the Dukes’ five-set victory over UNCW on Friday, the freshman outside hitter posted her season’s best of 25 kills and 10 digs. She added three blocks, two being solo, to help JMU on the defensive end as well.

On Saturday, Veldman recorded 15 kills on a .324 clip and 10 digs for JMU. She had one blocking assist in the match.

JMU Volleyball has started the 2020-21 season 3-1, 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association matches. The  Dukes’ home match against VCU on March 10 has been canceled due to COVID-19 protocols within the JMU program.

The Dukes are scheduled to travel to Elon, N.C. to battle the Phoenix on March 14 at 3 p.m. and March 15 at 4 p.m.
