Bray swims to 2 state titles, sets record in 100 backstroke

James River’s Ana Conrad placed 15th in the 200-yard IM at the 2A State Championships (2:49.56).

The Lord Botetourt and James River swimmers participated in state tournaments last week. LB was at the 3A state meet in Richmond while River swam in the Group 2A meet in Christiansburg.

Botetourt’s Olivia Bray set a new Group 3A state record in the 100 meter backstroke.

Olivia Bray had a big day in Richmond Saturday, winning two events. She was first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.20, setting a new Group 3A VHSL record. Olivia also won the 100 butterfly in 53.62.

The LB girls 200 Medley Relay placed 12th with a time of 1:57.98. The relay team consisted of Mackenzie Oesterreich, Brooke Heptinstall, Bray and Katelyn Arney.

James River’s Brycen Ford placed 15th in the 100-yard butterfly at the 2A State Championship meet (1:06.50).

The Cavaliers finished 15th out of 26 teams that scored. Riverside High’s girls won the state championship and Hidden Valley won the boys’ championship.

In Group 2A Maggie Walker swept the championships while the James River boys took 24th and the girls were 27th.

Ana Conrad placed 15th in the 200 IM, Brycen Ford placed 15th in the 100 Fly, and Luke Martin placed 20th in the 100 Free for the Knights. The boys 200 Free Relay placed 13th with Luke Martin, Caleb Meador, Matt Martin and Ford.
