The 2026-27 school year got underway Wednesday, Aug. 12, as students across Botetourt County Public Schools returned to classrooms, including at Breckinridge Elementary School.
At Breckinridge, students arrived with backpacks and school supplies as they began a new year of classes. The first day gave students an opportunity to settle into their classrooms and begin the school year with their teachers and classmates.
The return to school followed an open house last Monday, when families visited Breckinridge ahead of the first day. Jared Hayes brought his children, Brody, Sophie and Granger, to the school during open house to drop off their school supplies.
On Wednesday, Student Leadership Council member Cameron Earnest helped kindergarten student Connor Turman find his classroom.
Fourth graders Abigail Browning and Carson Bryant began the year in Mrs. Martin’s class, while second graders Leila Moyers and Shylah Willis started another year at Breckinridge.
The first day marked the beginning of another school year for students throughout Botetourt County as the division’s 2026-27 academic year got underway.
