BTEC Computer Systems teacher Roanoke AFA Aerospace Teacher of the Year

Chris Shaffer, Computer Systems teacher at Botetourt Technical Education Center (BTEC) in Fincastle, has been named the 2017 Aerospace Teacher of the Year by Roanoke Chapter 285 Air Force Association.

Shaffer, who teaches Computer Systems I, II and III, has been teaching at BTEC for three years.

The purpose of the Teacher of the Year program is to honor an outstanding teacher (Grades K-12) from the greater Roanoke area who demonstrates excellence in the field of aerospace education, or science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and to encourage innovative classroom programs, the announcement about the award says.

The Aerospace Teacher of the Year winner receives a $250 stipend from the Air Force Association, a certificate, an AFA tote bag, and a free one-year membership to the Air Force Association.

The chapter’s Aerospace Teacher of the Year’s is submitted to the Virginia AFA to compete for the State Teacher of the Year Award.
