Buchanan Elementary second graders in Mrs. Livingston’s class have been doing STEM activities. The first activity was building a “Pumpkin Catapult.”  They worked in cooperative teams to design a catapult that would send a candy pumpkin the farthest possible. The longest ones went more than 15 feet before hitting the hall walls. The second challenge was to design the tallest tower possible using gummies and round toothpicks. This was an individual challenge in which the students worked very intently to be successful. From above left, clockwise,  Grayden Hight works on a Pumpkin Catapult, Caroline Church measures her Gummy Tower Challenge, Aaron Dickison shows his Gummy Tower and Riley Dulaney checks to be sure her Gummy Tower is standing.
