For more than six decades, volunteers from the community have gathered on the bank of the James River to host the Buchanan Community Carnival. While many things have changed over time, the two things that have remained constant are the generous heart and spirit of volunteers and businesses as they donate their time and talents to make the Carnival a success, and the fun that families have as they enjoy the rides, games, music and food.

The Carnival opens on Thursday, July 1 at 6 p.m. with On Common Ground performing from Center Stage and food stands offering Carnival burgers, hot dogs, petros, ice cream and the famous Carnival Fries. At 6:30 p.m., Cole Amusements will open the Midway Games and Rides. Wristbands purchased on the grounds are $25 each; however, you may purchase in advance for $20 online at https://colerides.com/. Wristband specials include Thursday, July 1, Monday and Tuesday, July 5 and 6 for $15.

Saturday, July 3 includes a full day of activities including the Buchanan Farmers’/Community Market on Main Street from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., the Chicken BBQ being served from the Food Stand beginning at 11 a.m. until they are sold out, the parade on Main Street at 5 p.m., Carnival following the parade, and fireworks at 10 p.m.

The Buchanan Community Carnival begins July 1 and continues through Saturday, July 10. It is closed on Sunday, July 4. For additional information check the town website, Facebook page or call the Buchanan Town Hall at 254-1212.
