Caldwell Mountain Road is closed again to through traffic

Caldwell Mountain Road (Route 696) in Craig County closed again on Monday, May 11, as work continues on a pipe replacement.

The road was reopened to through traffic last week and the remaining work to replace the pipe was expected to be completed using daytime lane closures.  However, due to the amount of traffic on the road and the narrow roadway, the road will need to be closed again to through traffic for the safety of the road crew and motorists.

Route 606 will be closed from the intersection of Route 612 (Patterson Creek Road) to the Botetourt County line. The project is located approximately 1,100 feet east of the intersection of Route 606 and Route 612.

Message boards are in place to alert drivers of the closure and drivers will need to seek alternate routes. Local residents within the closure will be able to access their homes.

Weather permitting, the road is expected to reopen to through traffic again within two weeks.
