Carl Channing Newcomb, 58, passed away at his home on June 4, 2022 due to a tragic accident.

Carl was born April 13, 1964 to Richard and Sue Bordeaux Newcomb. He was raised in Roanoke and graduated from Northside High School. Carl later graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1986 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. While there, he was a member of the ROTC and continued to obtain the rank of Captain in the Army Reserve.

Carl is survived by his parents; his older siblings, Susan Awilda Connor, Richard Madison Newcomb, Gloria Jill Newcomb Brown, and Keith Lyle Newcomb; his younger siblings, Chris Elliot Newcomb, and Beverly Kay Moore; and his son, Preston Madison Newcomb.

Carl was a man who felt God’s love and followed his faith in everything he did. He was a generous and caring person to everyone he met. He was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church where he greeted the members every Sunday, enjoyed fellowship, and helped with church projects. Carl was a loving father who enjoyed time with his son who shared his interest in auto repair.

A private burial with full military honors was held at Godwin Cemetery, Fincastle.  A memorial service was held at Laurel Hill Baptist Church in Charlottesville on Saturday, June 11 at 11 a.m. A fellowship meal followed the service.

Carl was always helping anyone he could, so the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Laurel Hill Benevolent Fund, c/o Laurel Hill Baptist Church, 3595 Grand Forks Blvd., Charlottesville, 22911 in Carl’s honor.
