William Luther Cash Sr., 73, of Troutville, passed away February 19, 2020 at his home following a long illness.
William was born May 18, 1946 to the late Frank L., Sr. and Mary M. Cash. He lived in Botetourt all of his life. William was most recently a business owner of Cash Excavating which he had operated for close to 20 years. He also worked for J.H. Fralin for 15 years and Carolina Steel for 15 years as a Superintendent of the plant. William is lovingly described by his family as a “work-a-holic.” He enjoyed singing gospel music and going to church, excavating, and mechanic work – “he was a ‘jack of all trades.’”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Richard, Aubrey, Frank, Robert, and Clarence; sisters: Betty, Peggy, and Margaret. William is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty Cash; son, William Luther Cash Jr.; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy (Wayne) Walters, Lisa (Andy) Gilliam, Melissa (Scott) Lawson, Sandra (Joe) Moran, Mary Lou King, all of Botetourt; 16 grandchildren, Joshua, Destiny, Jessica, Kris, River, Jessi, Serenity, Justice, Nathan, Bailey, Corey, Noah, Frankie, Brooke, Ashley, and Haley; three great-grandchildren: Maverick, Logan, and Ryder; sister: Dessi Smith of Florida.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Carilion Clinic Hospice, and especially Nathan Dillon, for all of the care and support they gave to William and the family throughout his illness.
A celebration of William’s life was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 22 at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville with Pastor Debbie Hiner officiating. Burial was in the St. Clair Family Cemetery.
