The Lord Botetourt girls have three basketball games this week to open the 2022-23 season. The Cavaliers were scheduled to host Blacksburg for the season opener on Tuesday, travel to Jefferson Forest for a game tonight and play at Cave Spring on Friday in a busy week of action.

The Cavaliers return three All-Blue Ridge District players, including first team selection Taylor Orange. A junior, she averaged 13 points per game as a sophomore. Also returning are juniors point guard Ainsley Anderson and center Gracie Huffard. Both were second team All-BRD selections as sophomores last year.

Botetourt lost a good shooter over the summer when Grayson Alfano tore her ACL. Abby Kingery will look to fill a bigger role with Alfano out of the lineup and Madilyn Winterton is another new addition to the varsity that coach Renee Favaro is high on.

“Look for her to make a big impact on both ends of the floor,” said Favaro. “She’s a Swiss army knife type of player with a great build who can play any position on the floor.”

The Cavaliers have no seniors on this year’s team, so this group should continue to improve as they move forward.

“Our goals remain the same,” said Favaro. “We want to win the BRD and be a top team in our region.”
