Cavalier girls win big on ‘Girls Tribute Night’

The Lord Botetourt girls’ basketball team defeated Blacksburg on Dec. 22 as over 50 former players and coaches looked on. The Cavaliers took a 65-37 win on “LB Girls Tribute Night,” celebrating the successful basketball program at the high school.

Three former head coaches were in attendance, Ed Purdy, David Whea,t and Chuck Pound, as well as current head coach Renee Favaro. They were joined by 42 former Cavalier players and five assistant coaches.

The current Cavs didn’t disappoint as they improved to 3-4 on the season with the win over the Class 4 Bruins. Maggie Hoover led LB with 23 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Natalee Bowling had 18 points and three blocks and Jaiden Dann had 10 points, 10 steals, and three boards.

The girls were scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at home against Abingdon. Then they have a Saturday noon matinee at Harrisonburg High on Jan. 3.
